The history of this particular dance and score is interesting: Shostakovich, a Russian composer, wrote the piece as part of the soundtrack to the film The First Echelon in 1955, and it was later adapted into the popular version used in several Russian-themed modern movies. This video features clips from films such as Anna Karenina (1997) (you will catch a glimpse of Sean Bean aka Ned Stark from Game of Thrones as Anna’s lover Count Vronsky) and in 2013 (starring Keira Knightley as Anna), as well as a TV version of War and Peace and some other international films.
