15 lovely & loving quotes to write in your Valentine’s Day card

“The best thing to hold onto in life is each other,” and other inspiring words on love.

If you are anything like my husband you buy the card with the longest quote or poem on it that you can find, and write at the bottom “Love Daniel.” My husband is a man of few words. But he tells me he takes his time picking out a card that has a saying that reflects our relationship perfectly. But of course, as a woman and a writer, I always like to see more of his handwriting on my card besides just the signature. I like to see that he gave thought to our relationship.

On our ten-year anniversary, I received a long card as usual but when I opened it up there was a big surprise! He wrote not only one sentence but two full sentences! He wrote, “Happy 10th Anniversary!!! There is no one that I had rather spend my life with. I look forward to many many more. Love Always, Daniel.” I was elated to get this card! I taped it to my bedroom wall so I’ll be able to look at it for a long time. I know it probably took him a while to come up with the words that would express how he feels on paper, and that effort meant the world to me.

Valentine’s day is a great time to let someone know how you truly feel, but if you’re struggling to come up with the words yourself, don’t be afraid to seek help from a professional! No, I don’t mean a letter-writing service, I’m talking about borrowing a phrase or two from a quotable historical figure, genius, poet, or artist. There are so many to choose from out there, but these are a few verses that, in my humble opinion, have stood the test of time and, when written out by hand, will make even the simplest of store-bought cards stand out.
